Winter Solace

Winter Solace

– Renee Adele Phillips

In lieu of flowers,
robins
hop in expectant dirt,
marking paths with tiny vees.

In lieu of leaves,
finches
dot bare branches —
small occasions of yellow grace.

In lieu of blue skies,
etchings
imprint on gray —
a church spire, rooftops, crows on high wires.

In lieu of sunshine,
snowfalls
cover and shelter, whispering calm —
“Be still. Be still and know.”

  1. Beautiful post about how blessed we are during a cold night or morning! We have had several cold nights and mornings here in El Paso and all I can do is be grateful for all my blessings!! Cozy blankets, warm tea or coffee a, warm shower, a warm environment at my campus. Thank you for reminding me about the simple beauty of Winter! INFINITE BLESSINGS!🙏🏼😃🐾🐾❤️🐈🐕❄️💨
