Baby Talk

A few weeks ago, I let our cat Seamus write a post about his feelings regarding the quarantine. Carrick thought this was highly unfair and has been begging me to let him write about it, too. So here’s Carrick, our baby, with his perspective on the quarantine.

“My VERY Important Thoughts”
– Carrick Fergus Phillips

I’m not just the baby; let’s first get that straight.
I might be little and cute, but I’ve got lots to say.
Mommy says I’m too little to have such a big mouth,
but if I want someone to listen, I have to talk loud.
My parents obviously have so much to learn
and now I can tell them—it’s finally my turn!

First, Seamus was right about this quarantine—
it’s affecting my parents; it’s changed everything!
I think Seamus told you Daddy’s hair was so long—
Mommy just cut it, but I think something went wrong.
She said to Daddy she’d take some “off the top;”
maybe that was the plan, but she shaved it all off.

Another thing’s weird; there’s been a change in our rules.
When we fight, Mommy threatens us with something called homeschool.
I shredded some toilet paper; I’ve done it before.
But this time Daddy said, “You better pray that there’s more.”

Daddy’s home all the time; he stays up so late—
We set up camp in the bedroom for like six hours straight!
Mommy will say, “Should we watch one more show?”
And Daddy says, “Sure. I can’t find the remote.”

The treats Mommy bought us are not the right kind—
if they’re supposed to be chicken, it’s been redefined.
Those treats made me go on a long hunger strike,
but Mom and Dad didn’t notice, so it ended that night.
It’s not just the treats—there’s new food for us all—
it does NOT taste like chicken but it makes great soccer balls!
I have to play with my food ‘cause I tend to get bored
and heaven forbid I play with Seamus’s fort.
My parents keep saying a new toy’s on its way—
I believed them in April but now it’s mid-May!
They say it’s not THEIR fault—everything is delayed—
so how does Mommy get books, day after day?

All in all, though, I’d say, quarantine’s been fun!
We get to be here together; I’ll be sad when it’s done.
I like hanging out with both of my brothers—
Seamus plays games with me, one after another.
And then when I’m sleepy, I go and find Mackin.
He’s not good at games, but he’s still my best nap friend.
So I’ll forgive Mommy and Daddy for the treats and the toy—
being mad wastes my time, and there’s so much to enjoy!

  1. Not crazy yet, but we’ll on the way, people aren’t made for this kind of crazy.
So my wife said we can’t go anywhere but the lumber yards are open, son in law is laid off so you guys get busy, building a shed, put down two new floors and painted two rooms have not had time to enjoy this lock down, not to worry looks like this could go on for a while. What’s funny I see a difference in the dogs they lay around a lot more and play less, it’s tough to get them going for a walk.
Enjoying your cat stories, I think animals help to keep us from going crazy especially durning this deal. I just watch a news story about the crews on the cruise ship could not get off the ship for 54 days. There is twelve ships in Tampa Bay just empty waiting to go to sea but that could be a while.
You folks take stay safe ❤️❤️❤️❤️

    1. Grover–you make me laugh. Aren’t we all well on the way to crazy?! I think Jean is quite clever, using this time to get some work out of you. I think I might do the same with Monty. I saw that same story about the cruise ships–I can’t imagine it! I have decided that cruises are definitely not for me. Thank you for the smile. Blessings to you and Jean and your family. ❤

  2. Good morning Sparrow. A change. Of pace, from my Perspective.Your cats, and i am notvsurpisrd, have excellent literary skills.Maybe,I could get Bradley some “tutorials”.. The quarantine, poses different issues, for the world, daily. Cats, I am quickly learning are no fan of quarantine, of any sort. But, I enjoyed the Cat’s depiction.Haircuts, aha, a “bird of a different feather”.But, Sparrow did you have to “shave” Monty’s head? How uncarung of you. I will close, God Bless You, Keep yo all safe.Keep on Blogging. ❤️🤠TexGen

    1. TexGen–my boys would love to meet Bradley! Mackin wouldn’t be able to help much with tutorials, but I know they’d be friends. Now about that haircut. I didn’t plan to shave Monty’s head–he gave me the wrong razor attachment. I’m not saying I didn’t enjoy it, though. 😊 Love and prayers to you! And stay well. ❤
