Solace

Solace

– Renee Adele Phillips

In lieu of flowers,

robins

hop in expectant dirt, marking paths with tiny Vs.

In lieu of leaves,

finches

dot bare branches — small occasions of yellow grace.

In lieu of blue skies,

etchings

imprint on gray — a church spire, rooftops, crows on high wires.

In lieu of sunshine,

clouds

cover and shelter, whispering calm -“Be still. Be still and know.”

  1. I love this Renee! I love the ending, “In lieu of sunshine, clouds cover and shelter, whispering calm- “Be still. Be still and know.” I love that verse in Psalm 46:10, “Be still and know that I am God.” What a great reminder that God is sovereign over all things and He loves us! Thanks for sharing this poetic blessing. Much love to you, my dear friend.
